Or is it Ginger back?

I like drinking Stoli Vanilla with Ginger Ale and Ginger Syrup over ice.

I made the ginger syrup by boiling water and sugar and sliced up ginger until it was thick and light brown in color. Yum!

    we are big ginger fans - we've been trying to brew real ginger beer

    roughly how much sugar, how much ginger, how much water

    and can you really taste the vanilla?

      I made the syrup to taste...which for me is towards the very sweet. All I can say is that I used a medium-large sized pot, filled it 1/3-1/2 full with water, added about 2 and 1/2 cups sugar, then put in sliced ginger root, about half of a large root. I let the mixture boil for about an hour and a half, then let it cool. I strained the ginger out, put syrup into a bottle. Then I added a few pieces of the carmelized ginger into the bottle, so it wouldn't get mistaken for simple syrup or bourbon (it is bourbon colored.) The carmelized ginger pieces can be eaten as snacks or used as garnishes.

        The vanilla in Stoli vanilla is pretty good. Don't try any of the smirnoff flavored vodkas, they are really bad. The only flavored vodka I really like is the Stoli Vanilla, Stoli Pepper, and Ketel Citreon. I haven't yet tried Grey Goose L'Orange...that might be good too.

    oh my, <swoon> that sounds delicious. A new cool, refreshing cocktail to take out camping in the red rock. Sounds like a perfect cap after a long day playing in the dirt. Joanna banana, you are my hero.

    At the Argus in the Mission in SF, they had (still have?) a drink special

    * Stoli vanilla
    * Ginger ale
    * Crush cherry

    ...the name? The Jon Bonet!
    (Actually, quite a tasty drink.)

    Also, try putting the ginger syrup into a margarita.
    Since trying this, I've actually seen "gingerita" mix
    in the stores, though i like the from-scratch better.

    I made some ginger vodka last summer. Take a medium sized piece of ginger, peeled and roast it at about 300 degrees for 20-30 minutes, slice and add to a bottle of vodka with one (convienient) shot missing and let sit for about a week.

    I enjoyed it alone, but some other variations we did were:

    ginger vodka, lemonade and mint
    ginger vodka and ginger ale

    On another note - I wonder if it would be good mixed with Ginger Beer (like a Dark N Stormy - but with the ginger vodka instead of dark rum) or that might just be ginger overkill. I still can't find a bar in SF that serves Ginger Beer. Everyone always subs ginger ale. Not the same.

      Moscow Mules........ Equal parts ginger beer(non alcoholic)and Vodka. Splash lime juice, and throw in the twisted lime, add ice.....ENJOY.
      Now for an added twist,............... ginger beer(alcoholic) and ginger vodka, for those that like ginger. splash lime add ice ... very refreshing

      Never tried the roasted ginger, I just add about 8 -10 ozs of thinly sliced and peeled root to a half gallon, put it away for a week or two in a cool dark place(if you can)
